FAQ

General

How far in advance do I need to order?

If you require a cake within 1–2 days, please refer to our Same Day Order page. We highly recommend calling us on (07) 3252 2562 before placing your order to check availability.

Custom birthday cakes require a minimum of 7 days' notice.

Wedding cakes and large event orders require at least 1 month's notice.

Can I cancel my order?

Once an order has been confirmed, we do not offer refunds for cancellations due to customer-related reasons.

If sufficient notice is provided, we may be able to place your order on hold and arrange a new collection date. Please contact us as soon as possible to discuss your options.

Can someone else collect my order on my behalf?

Yes.

Once your order has been placed, you will automatically receive an order confirmation email. Please forward the email or provide a screenshot of the order confirmation to the person collecting the cake.

What is the earliest collection time available?

The earliest collection time depends on the cake design and production requirements.

Please contact us to discuss your preferred collection time. Some cakes may be available for collection from our Fortitude Valley store as early as 8:00am.

Cake and Storage

How should I store my cake?

Our cakes are made with pure fresh cream and do not contain margarine. They should be refrigerated within one hour of collection and stored between 2°C and 5°C.

If your journey home is longer than one hour, please ensure the air conditioning remains on throughout the trip.

For the best quality and flavour, we recommend consuming the cake within 2 days of collection. Please note that slight colour changes or small cracks in the cream may occur after overnight refrigeration, which is normal for fresh cream cakes.

How do I transport my cake safely?

Please keep the cake box level at all times.

When carrying your cake, support the base of the box and avoid swinging or shaking it.

If travelling by car, we recommend placing the cake on the front passenger footwell. For larger cakes that do not fit safely in the footwell, they may be placed in the boot. Please keep the air conditioning running at a cool temperature during transport.

Avoid sudden braking, sharp turns and rapid acceleration. Drive carefully to minimise movement of the cake.

What if I am not satisfied with my cake?

Please check your cake carefully with our staff upon collection and ensure all details are correct before leaving the store.

Once the cake has been collected, we are unable to accept responsibility for any issues that arise afterwards.

What happens if my cake is damaged after collection?

Once a cake has left our store, we cannot accept responsibility for any damage.

This is particularly important for custom cakes, as many decorations are prepared in advance and may not be available for immediate repair or replacement.

For larger cakes, we strongly recommend arranging for two people to collect the order to help ensure safe transportation.

Do you cater for allergy requirements?

We do not offer dairy-free or egg-free products.

While we take every reasonable precaution to minimise cross-contamination, our products are prepared in a kitchen where dairy, eggs, nuts, gluten and other allergens are handled. As all items are made using shared equipment and work surfaces, traces of allergens may be present.

For this reason, we do not recommend our products for customers with severe allergies or anaphylaxis. If you have any allergy concerns, please contact us before placing your order.

Will my cake look exactly the same as the reference photo?

Not exactly.

Cream colours, cake height, fruit decorations and flower varieties may vary depending on seasonal availability and production requirements. As a result, cakes will not be exactly identical to the reference photo.

Can I request less sugar or less cream?

Unfortunately no.

Our recipes have already been carefully developed to achieve the best balance of flavour while maintaining a lower sugar and lower fat profile.

We currently do not offer vegan or halal products.

Please note that all of our cream products contain beef-derived gelatin.

How are your cake sizes measured?

The cake sizes listed on our website refer to the diameter of the cake sponge baked in the specified cake tin. This is the standard sizing method used throughout the baking industry.

As our cakes are freshly baked and handmade, the finished cake may vary slightly in diameter due to natural baking shrinkage, the type of frosting and the decorating style. For example, naked cakes may have a slightly smaller finished diameter than fully frosted cakes.

Minor variations are a normal part of handmade baking and do not affect the quality or serving size of your cake.

Why do different cakes have different heights?

The height of each cake varies depending on the flavour, filling, number of layers and decoration. Some cakes naturally require thicker fillings or taller layers to achieve their intended flavour and appearance.

Although the finished heights may differ between cake designs, the recommended serving size for each cake remains as stated on the product page.

Will every cake slice be exactly the same size?

Our cakes are cut by hand rather than by machine. While we always aim to divide each cake as evenly as possible, slight differences between individual slices are normal.

Handmade Product Notice

Every Icing Hill cake is individually handmade. Small variations in size, height, decoration, colour and finish are a natural part of the baking and decorating process, making each cake unique. These variations are expected and are not considered defects.

Delivery

Do you provide delivery services?

Yes, we offer delivery to selected Brisbane suburbs within our service area. Delivery fees are calculated automatically at checkout based on your postcode.

If delivery is not available for your postcode, you are welcome to select one of our pickup locations instead.

If you prefer to arrange your own courier or Uber delivery, you are welcome to do so. Please ensure the driver has your order number and mobile phone number. Drivers must come into the store and provide both details before we can release the order.

For security reasons, we do not hand cakes over outside the store or on the street.

For wedding cakes or large event orders, please contact us before placing your order to discuss our delivery options and availability.

How does delivery work?

For apartment, unit or building deliveries, customers are required to come down to the entrance to collect the cake. For food safety and security reasons, our drivers do not deliver directly to apartment doors.

Please ensure your phone is switched on and available to receive our driver's call. If we are unable to reach you, or no one comes down to collect the order within 5 minutes of the driver's arrival, the cake will be returned to Icing Hill.

A new delivery will need to be arranged with us. We do not offer a second delivery attempt on the same day, and an additional delivery fee will apply.

As all cakes are freshly made and require refrigeration, we are unable to leave cakes unattended at the delivery location.

Delivery fees are non-refundable once the delivery service has been booked. If you later decide that you no longer require delivery and wish to collect your order instead, the delivery fee will not be refunded.

Delivery address changes must be requested at least 2 days before the scheduled delivery date. We do not accept address changes on the day of delivery, as our drivers’ routes are arranged in advance.

Can I request a specific delivery time?

Unfortunately, no. Our delivery window is 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. As delivery times depend on traffic and our delivery schedule, we are unable to guarantee a specific arrival time. Our driver will call you upon arrival.

What happens if I'm not home when my order arrives?

Our driver will call you upon arrival. If we are unable to contact you or no one is available to collect the order within 5 minutes, the cake will be returned to Icing Hill. A new delivery will need to be arranged, and additional delivery charges may apply. For food safety reasons, cakes cannot be left unattended and must be refrigerated as soon as possible.
